Food and Cuisine ( Part 3)

Korea's best way of having fun with friends is to eat, play truth or dare in
a Street Stall. Street stall sells many different kinds of Korean food. The most Popular
one is 떡볶이 Tteokbokki ( Spicy Rice cake).

Secondly, the food that is popular within the
foreigners are 김밥 KimBap. 김밥 KimBap is popular around the world. We can pack
KimBap on picnics, field trips, or hanging out with friends. Kimbap is the basic snack to
bring when you are going out on a field trip at school.
Third, is 호떡Hotteok(Pan Cake). Often 호떡Hotteok is sold in Winter because its more delicious to eat in Winter. 호떡Hotteok are filled with Sweet liquid ( Melted Sugar and Coffee). A lot of Korean Students eat this after school at Winter.
Fourth, 순대 SunDae( Pig/Cow intestines). This food is popular among Korean womans. A lot of Korean womans tells their husband to buy SunDae on his way home after work. Its a great Snack to enjoy after dinner.

미역국(Miyeok Guk)Brown Seaweed Soup




미역국(Miyeok Guk)Brown Seaweed Soup is often served on occasions
like on Birthdays, Death Anniversaries or Especially after a woman gave birth.
One day if u see ur mom serving you a Brown Seaweed Soup, it means its
someone's birthday or someone's death anniverary. The Soup can be boiled
in different styles, With SeaFood or With Beef.





Ingredients (enough for 3-4 servings, ready in 15 – 20 minutes)

35g dried brown seaweed (Miyeok)
70g sliced beef shank
2 cloves minced garlic
3 tbsp soy sauce (I used Kikoman brand)
1 tbsp Korean sesame oil
4 cups water
1/2 tbsp sesame oil and 3 sprinkles ground black pepper – to season the meat
Prep
Soak the dried brown seaweed in cold water for 5 minutes.
Drain the water and rinse the seaweed a couple of times in running water.
Drain the water. Cut the seaweed with scissors to little finger lengths.
Season the beef with 1/2 tbsp sesame oil and 3 sprinkles of ground black pepper.
Steps
Pre heat the sauce pan (or pot) for about 30 seconds.
Add 1 tbsp of sesame oil, the brown seaweed, and the sliced beef then stir it for 2 – 3 minutes.
Add the water then boil it on medium heat until the seaweed and the meat cook (about 5- 10 minutes).
Add the soy sauce and garlic, boil it for 2 more minutes then serve. (You can adjust the taste with some salt if it is needed.

Garlic, Ginger, 고추장 Go Chu Jang( Fermented Chili Pastes).
